How to Build Your Perfect Team
Vincent Benjamin

A strong team in the office could very well be the key to success. As a manager, how do you ensure that your team works well together, can continue to grow and learn, and is empowered to make important decisions at the right times? It starts with hiring the right people but it doesn’t stop there. Strong management means continuously encouraging your employees. Here are some ideas to maintaining a strong team in your business.

  1. Emphasize the right teambuilding activities. Teambuilding activities are considered the worst in the work place, and rightfully so. Most of them are forced and excruciating. However, teambuilding does work but only if done correctly. Try things like volunteering activities or career development training.
  2. Encourage interest in non-work conversation. Studies have shown that people who get along as individuals work better together in general. That means no one should view a coworker as just another part of the machine. Encourage your staff to get to know one another and take a genuine interest.
  3. Use everyone’s talents in the best ways. Not everyone in your company will have the same talents or interests. The best thing you can do is make sure to steer your team in the right direction using their skills to your advantage. For instance, pairing a creative thinker with an analytical thinker can help increase the success of projects.
  4. Understand their specific social needs. Lastly, make sure that you are also cognizant of each employee’s social needs. Introverts and extroverts work differently in the office and should never be shoehorned into an experience that makes them uncomfortable. However, they can also work together effectively.
