Attract Better Candidates With These Out of the Box Ideas

Your recruiting process is only as good as the results. When you hire the right person, there is a sense of satisfaction as well as the productivity and success that comes with having the best employee in each role in your company. But hiring isn’t as simple as going back to the same well that produced your last best employee. If you’re beginning to see a decline in the quality of candidates responding to your posts, there may be some out of the box things you can do to improve the process. Here are some things to consider.

  • Build a better employer brand. You certainly have your own marketing plan in place with your logo, design, and messaging. The same kind of methods should be used in your hiring process. You want to position your company as a great place to work, and branding can help you do that. Use your online presence to promote your company culture, office space, and the types of jobs people do in your organization.
  • Make the online application process easier. A large majority of adults only access the internet through their smart devices. That means when they’re accessing your online application process, it needs to be as easy as possible. Many top quality candidates will abandon the process mid-application if it becomes too difficult or time consuming. Keep it simple, like allowing them to apply using their LinkedIn profile.
  • Understand how your environment plays a role. Your office space is as important as your benefits packages, rates of pay, and the other people in your business. You want to make sure that your office environment is welcoming, conducive to productivity, and the kind of place your top candidates will want to work. Look at the ergonomics, the amenities, and even the colors that you use.
  • Write more creative job descriptions. Lastly, you may want to take another look at writing job descriptions. When you’re posting a new job online, either with social media or a job board, it will be a candidate’s first impression of your company. Make it stand out. Don’t only give a laundry list of job duties. Describe your company culture, what they can expect, what you can provide, and why they would want to apply.
