Does Your Company Attract Gen Z?
Vincent Benjamin

Today, Gen Z is increasingly making its way into the workforce. Many of the oldest members are college graduates or have otherwise already launched a career, having at least a few years of experience under the belt. As each year passes, more join them and, as they do, their influence on the workplace grows.

In many ways, attracting members of Gen Z isn’t unlike targeting Millennials. However, there are a few differences that do separate the two generations a bit.

If you want to make sure your company is attracting the best Gen Z talent, here are some options that can help.

Embrace Digital

Not unlike Millennials, members of Generation Z are digital natives, though they take it to the nth degree. Most have grown up using social media and getting much of their news and other content online. Additionally, they rely on it heavily for communication, often far beyond previous generations.

If you’re going to attract Gen Z candidates, you need to embrace digital advancements on every front. For recruitment, you may want to focus on online approaches, including in-app messaging, forums, and other resources. It’s also smart to establish a presence on their preferred social media platforms, including YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram.

Additionally, it’s wise to address Gen Z’s preference for video and visual content. Many prefer those approaches for reviewing content, so they can be great additions to your job ads, career page, blog posts, and more.

Highlight Diversity

Overall, Gen Z is more diverse than any generation that came before them, and they commonly view themselves as citizens of the world, not just their area or home country. They are also highly socially conscious, often taking action to help support equality and inclusion.

If you want to capture the attention of Gen Z talent, highlighting diversity is an excellent idea. This can include details about your diversity and inclusion initiatives, bios showcasing staff members from a range of backgrounds, announcements about charitable work in related areas, and discussions of similar topics.

Get Your Employees Involved

By and large, Gen Z finds information from individuals more trustworthy than information from companies. They frequently seek out the inside scoop on opportunities, reaching out online to learn more about the real experience of working for a particular organization.

That means, if you want to connect with Gen Z, you may need to do it through your staff. By taking some of your best and brightest and having them serve as brand ambassadors, you’re giving Gen Z candidates a source of information that may feel more valuable to them.

Ultimately, it’s wise to start focusing on how to attract Gen Z talent today. They are increasingly establishing themselves in the workforce and, soon, the battle for their attention will only get fiercer. With the tips above, you can get a head start, ensuring you’re able to secure the candidates you need now and into the future.
